Dr. Dave Diefenderfer graduated with a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Maryland-College Park, then earned his veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He began his career in large animal clinical medicine and surgery with an internship at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatchewan, Canada, followed by a residency in large animal surgery at New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania. The next stage in his career began with a residency in small animal surgery at the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he remained on the small animal surgery staff until 2007 before joining Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Linwood. While at Penn, Dr. D obtained a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology in the Department of Orthopedics in the School of Medicine, and also received postdoctoral research training in the Department of Biochemistry in the Penn School of Dental Medicine. Research projects in these labs focused on the cell and molecular biology of microvascular pericytes and bone marrow stromal cells which are of interest as stem cells in bone healing.
In his leisure time, Dr. D enjoys reading, hiking and musing about why the game of golf tortures not only his soul, but that of countless otherwise normal human beings. He makes every effort to return the unconditional affection of his furry housemates, Nana and Brooklyn. His life has been enriched countless times during his many years of volunteering with the Ronald McDonald Cancer Camp associated with the Ronald McDonald House of Philadelphia.
