Critical Care

Veterinary critical care focuses on providing advanced medical intervention for pets with life-threatening injuries or conditions that are in need of immediate intensive care. Often times these patients need around-the-clock monitoring and a dedicated team of veterinarians and technicians with specialized training to care for them.

Examples of conditions requiring critical care include:

• Trauma (hit by car, burns, bites, knife or gunshot injuries)
• Trouble breathing
• Shock
• Coma
• Blood transfusions
• Difficulty recovering from a surgical procedure or from general anesthesia
• Life-threatening neurologic conditions such as severe seizures that are not responding to medications
• Difficulty urinating, or not producing urine
• Specialized nutritional support
